The Garo Baptist Convention (GBC) is one and a half century old umbrella organization of Garo baptist churches of Meghalaya, Goalpara and Kamrup district of Assam. It is also known as the A·chik Baptist Dal·gipa Krima (ABDK) in Garo. GBC represents over 2,600 congregations, including 342 mother churches, with 377,132 baptized members and approximately 200,000 unbaptized members, forming a Baptist community of nearly half a million.
The Garo Baptist Convention was established on April 3, 1875. Organizationally, the Garo Baptist Convention has grown to one of the largest Baptist Conventions under Asia Pacific Baptist Federation and Baptist World Alliance. Had it not been for the gospel of Christ, the head-hunting and fierce Garo tribe was facing the prospect of being annihilated as a tribe from the face of the earth by the British regime. We praise God Almighty for showing us the light of salvation through His son and our Lord Jesus Christ and thus paving way for spiritual, educational, socio-economic transformations of Garos. Indeed, “Great Things He has done” Psalm 126:3.
